RETROTECHTACULAR: first LASER TRANSMITTER built 50 YEARS ago

many of the time we feature hokey film footage in our Retrotechtacular series, but we think this hack is as amazing today as it was fifty years ago. [Clint] azt írta, hogy elmondja nekünk a Vörös vonal működését. It was an experiment carried out may 3rd and 4th, 1963, which implies the 50th anniversary just passed a few weeks ago. The hack involved sending data (audio in this case) over long distances using a laser. De vissza, akkor nem tudtál csak ugrani az eBay-en, és megvásárolhatja az alkatrészeket. A csapatnak mindent össze kellett csapkodnia maguknak.

A saját hélium-neon lézercsövet építették, amely a jobb oldalon látható. The gentlemen involved were engineers at a company called Electro-Optical System (EOS) by day, and Ham radio enthusiasts by night. With the blessing of their employer they were able to ply their hobby skills using the glass blowing and optical resources from their work to get the laser up and running. A dolgok ezen oldalán gondoskodtak arról, hogy a fogadó végéhez fordultak. Teleszkóppal és fotomultiplerrel képesek voltak felvenni a fénysugarat mintegy 119 mérföld távolságra. The pinnacle of their achievement was modulating audio on the transmitter, and demodulating it with the receiver.

[Clint] Ismeri azokat a férfiakat, akik ezt tették és írtak fel a projektre a saját blogján.
